M/I Homes and HomeAid Northern Virginia breathed new life into a 1930s era single-family house, first built as military housing for Quantico-based troops. Now used by ACTS as transitional housing for families, M/I Homes and its trade partners completely renovated the bathroom and replaced the roof. The project is valued at $10,775, 100 percent of which was donated. View photos;  watch YouTube video.

“We are grateful for the renovations completed by M/I Homes on the bathroom and roof of one of our transitional houses,” said Frances Harris, executive director for ACTS. “We inherited several cottages from the Quantico base years ago, and the plumbing updates and roof repairs were key in keeping our homes livable for the homeless families we serve. M/I Homes provided their expertise in both the planning and timely repairs, and it’s always great when the people with the right tools are able to so easily accomplish a task that we found somewhat daunting. Many thanks too to HomeAid for being so responsive and connecting us with the experts we needed.”

“Our family is so thankful for the wonderful work HomeAid did to the unit that we now rent,” said the home’s resident. “The bathroom was amazing from the first glance, and everything has been done with such a professional touch. Again, we say thanks for a job well done.”

Trade Spotlight: Summit Roofing With six extremely enthusiastic and excited trade partners working on the ACTS project, it was difficult to choose just one to spotlight! But Summit Roofing, which worked with M/I Homes on another HomeAid project, has long played an important role in giving back to the community: President and Owner Sam Fullerton is well known for his commitment to charities, including the Prince William Hospital Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, the Prince William Red Cross, Arlington Women’s Shelter, Children’s Hospital, Project Mend-a-House, and Catholic Charities, and he has sponsored many youth sports teams and local high school teams. For the ACTS project, Summit Roofing donated in full all of the material and labor that went into stripping the old roof, replacing damaged roof sheathing, and installing a new roof with new chimney flashing and new ridge vents. “HomeAid is a great cause,” Fullerton said, “and we love to work with them. We’ve done quite a few projects with them, working with several different Builder Captains, and we’ve always been glad to be involved.
